I think my fascination has roots in my childhood. When I was a little girl flipping through magazines I always loved looking at Dior makeup ads, they just fascinated me! I wanted to be that Dior model when I grew up. That electric blue packaging with Christian Dior on it seemed so chic, so grown up. I think even after all those years I never got over my fascination.
The reason I hold off was the price. Each Dior quint is whopping $60 +. You are paying this not so modest amount for 6 grams of product and you get 5 eyeshadows, each slightly over a gram. For over $50+ you can buy 12 eyeshadows sets from Urban Decay. Naked, Naked2, Naked 3 can be yours for less money. Urban Decay eyeshadow quality is impeccable, colour selection very versatile. Regardless owning 2 of the Naked Palettes I never stopped wanting the Dior quint. I kept thinking there must be something special about so one day not so long ago I became a proud owner of Dior 5 Couleurs quint in 566 Versailles.
I specifically chose a neutral tone one, as I am not too experimental with my eyeshadow colours.
I wan't too wowed with the selection they offered but I decided 566 Versailles would be something I could wear everyday. In my head it was also a valid reason to pay over $60.
Don't get me wrong, as you can see below the quint itself is beautiful, however, in terms of quality I don't think it is the best on the market. I would have to say that Urban Decay eyeshadows are better quality bot in terms of colour intensity and payoff.
Dior shadows are buttery smooth but for my taste they are too sheer and subtle. If you are a fan of so called invisible makeup trend you will like it. If you prefer your makeup to show you will not be too thrilled. As you can see on the swatches below colours are quite shimmery, however, on the eyes shimmer and pigmentation does not translate that much. You end up piling the colour but it is never end up looking vibrant. My favourite colour is the dark brown one, it is so sheer you can never apply too much of it in the crease. Other lighter shades are also beautiful but they are not unique or extraordinary, they are just OK.
One thing with Dior 566 Versailles that some of you might like is that you can never overdo it. No matter how eyeshadow happy you get it will always look subtle and clean.
I am glad I made my younger self proud and happy acquiring it but I don't see myself running out and buying more of these Dior quints.
Do you own any Dior quints? What are your thoughts?
